The Trust
The XIX-century Stately Home
The Council set up the Trust in 1991 to administer the gardens of both La Concepcion and La Consula
estate, located in the district of Churriana, which is home to the Catering School. The Trust has
its own budget, which entitles it to patrimony ownership. Its chairman is the Mayor of Malaga,
Francisco de la Torre Prados, while Teresa Porras Teruel and Gerente Alfredo Asensi
Marfil are the executive vice-chairman and managing director of the trust respectively.
Since the purchase of La Concepcion by the Council in 1990, two main goals have been constant
in all of the work carried out on the estate; on the one hand, to preserve its priceless cultural,
historical and botanical heritage that is so inexorably linked to the history of both the city of
Malaga and the rest of Spain, and on the other, to make the estate available to the people of
Malaga and visitors to the city alike, thus ensuring that the aforementioned patrimony can be
enjoyed in the fullest sense by all concerned.
Funding
As a Council-controlled organisation, the Trust provides local government with a tool via
which it can carry out certain elements of its environmental and cultural policy; consequently,
Malaga City Council is the Trust’s main source of funding.
However, it also boasts several sources of revenue of its own in the shape of the fees
charged to the general public for the activities and services that it provides, such as admission
to the gardens and the hosting of events, to name but two.
Private funding also plays a key role, taking the form of subsidies or collaborative
agreements for specific projects.
Finally, the Trust also receives financial support from the Andalusian Employment Service to
cover the cost of the occupational training courses provided by the Training Workshops that have
been in operation at La Concepcion since 1994.
The Quality Management System
Since late 2002, the “City of Malaga” Municipal Botanical Trust has boasted its own Quality
Management System (QMS) which covers the visit service offered by La Concepcion and the maintenance
of its gardens. This QMS has earned the Trust the ISO 9001:2000 Certification Mark awarded by the
British Standards Institution (BSI). The system in question ensures that both the visit service and
all maintenance tasks undertaken are conducted in accordance with patterns of operation that enable
both these activities and the level of user satisfaction to be appraised at all times; this in turn
will enable us to design and implement a series of Improvement Plans in the near future.
