Studying the botanical collections

New botanical collections are gradually being incorporated into the 23 hectares that make up the estate. Before a new group of plants can be introduced, a detailed study must be carried out in order to determine the scientific and didactic features that will inhabit the area to be landscaped. The species to be planted are subsequently selected in accordance with the requirements of latitude, humidity, temperature, soil type, exposure to the sun etc.; the florae chosen are then tracked down in the Index Seminum, in plant nurseries or in other botanical gardens before finally being acclimatised and developed. There then follows a certain amount of deskwork to determine the exact scientific name of the species in question according to the latest taxonomic studies.
